Hard working, Talented, Educated, Independent, and Determined are some of the words that can be used to describe Mabel Orellana. She is more than just your average teenager and that began at a young age where she had to learn to do for herself. Mabel was born August 8, 1990 to a single mother who was already struggling to raise her five daughters alone learned at young age a lesson that most don’t learn until their late twenties. Responsibility. Mabel has always had to be responsible for herself from eating to doing homework she has always done it all with no help.
Even though most things have not come easy for Mabel the one thing that she makes look effortless is dance. Once the beat of the song comes on and she starts to move there’s no denying that Mabel is a gifted dancer. Having never taken a dance class Mabel has natural rhythm that enables her to rock her hips and leave you in a trance after watching her move. Dance is not the only thing that she is passionate about she also has a passion for helping people. This is what encouraged her to major in psychology so that she can help the people in her community.
Between working at McDonald’s and going to Unity High School full time Mabel has not let her ambitions slip away and in the fall of 2008 she will be attending San Jose State University and one step closer to fulfilling her dream of becoming a psychologist. Mabel not only wants to go to college to prove to her mom that she can do it, but to be somebody in this world and make something with her life.
